A dramatic new school featuring sun and views.
A neighborhood in need / a site with a view. Anchorage’s oldest middle school could not meet the challenges of 21st century learning and would cost more to rehab than to replace.
The south facing, sloping site provided the perfect setting for collaborative classroom groupings, all with south facing views of the Chugach Mountains. Anchorage’s only 3 story middle school houses 1,000 students in small learning communities that are supported by robust common facilities.
Working in concert with a local developer and municipal utilities land swaps and utility relocations were accomplished to fully integrate the school into its vital neighborhood.
