William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery

Anchorage, Alaska

The largest of its kind in North America.

The hatchery was the largest indoor sport fish hatchery in North America and housed more than 100 fish rearing tanks for salmon, trout, char and grayling.

The innovative design uses approximately 5% of the fresh water volume and 5% of the energy required in a conventional hatchery. It is the winner of several awards and received the first Envision Gold award from the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure.

Playful art by Alaskan artist Ray Troll, appropriately highlights the importance of fish to Alaska’s culture and economy.
